Buy one
have to go to dealer
A Toyota Matrix transponder key is factory programed. At times this programing can fail. It is a quick process for the dealership to reprogram the key. A lost key and transponder will cost approximately $100 to replace depending on model.
call Toyota customer service they will send you a new one. It would cost a pretty penny though. If you have not lost it and its just not working trying changing the battery in the smart key (it costs about 4.95 at a Toyota dealer.
If you have and older 4 runner 2000 my Toyota will replace the engine ecu for free, but you will have to pay for keys and programing. On this model year, if you lost all of the master keys you have to replace the engine ecu, beause you cant add key if you only have a vallet key.
If the key is purchased from the dealership expect to pay around 65 dollars. And then another ten dollars to program it.
I have a 2006 Yaris, took my key to a local watch repair shop £3.00 to change the battery, perfect job.
Ask Toyota to give you a spare key.
I worked at a Toyota Dealership, a lot of times when new keys were cut they'd need to be programmed. I work and live in New Zealand by the way. Unfortunately the owner to my understanding couldn't program/re-program the key, you must take it into your dealership to have it done. It involves the key itself in the car with the Toyota Mechanic doing a code via opening and closing doors, it's a weird process. But that's how it's programmed. I don't believe it can be done yourself. It's a security measure.
how do you program key
I can not unlock the doors to my 2003 Toyota 4-Runner with my fab. I put a new battery in my fab. What is wrong? Do I need to replace a fuse in my car? Thanks.
