what i have found on the Mazda 626 is that the valve cover gaskets wear out after a lengthy period of time. As a result, oil seeps down onto the spark plug ports which are actually embedded down narrow short shafts. The result causes a misfire. Generally a mechanic can replace the valve cover gaskets and clean or replace the worn spark plugs. Replacing spark plugs temporarily fixes the problem, soon as they get oil fouled again, the problem repeats itself.
