Usually the VSS is located on the gear box. See if you can find it by looking between the firewall and the engine, sometimes it sticks out of the top of the gear box. If you speedo is not working it can be caused by three things, most likely the wiring connection is broken, secondly a broken speedo cluster, thirdly a broken VSS. But usually the VSS is quite robust because it is basically a magnetic sensor. Peter
raise the vehicle, disconnect the electrcal connection from the vss. remove the mounting bolt and withdraw the vss from the transaxle case. replace sensor "O" ring.
If the VSS is defective replace the instrument cluster.
If the VSS is defective replace the instrument cluster.
Replace the VSS and wires.
It's on the top back corner of the transmission.

If by "vss" you are referring to the vehicle speed sensor... Removal - # Disconnect the negative battery cable. # Raise and support the vehicle. # Remove the catalytic converter Y-pipe. # Unplug the VSS electrical connector. # Remove the VSS protective heat shield. # Remove the retaining bolt from the VSS. # Lift the VSS out of the transaxle. # Remove the driven gear retainer and the drive gear.
The VSS is located on the top of the transmission and is connected to the engine wiring harness. To replace it all you need to do is unplug the old one from the wiring harness and unscrew it from the transmission, instalation is the reverse of removal.
No need to test VSS. If the check engine light is on and fault code is VSS; then replace same. Huge job best done by reputable shop.
Replace it.......its one bolt on the side of the transmission.....
