The water pump is run by the timing chain inside the front end of the engine. It's a big job and requires knowledge of timing points toline up on the chain and the sprockets on the crank & overhead cams. Antifreeze will run into the oil pan. You will need to change your oil. And to get to the front of the engine you'll need to pull the top front body bracket and the radiator. I didn't do mine. I had a shop do it. They quoted $531. Two guys spent 7 hours and the timing was not set right and they had to take it apart again to set the timing correctly. They lost money. They obviously haven't changed a water pump on a 2002 Intrepid before. It should have cost around $900-1,000 and done once. My opinion is to have a mechanic do it. Less time & headache but, more money. Cheaper in the long run. GOOD LUCK.
