Replacing timing chain and need firing order for 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.5?

That should have been marked on the intake manifold, towards the rear of the engine.

The firing order is correct! However, it has a timing belt, not a chain. The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so replace that while your in there. And Make sure the crank and cams on on TDC before you put the belt on!

What does the service code p1776 mean for a 2003 dodge intrepid?

P1776 is a transmission fault code. It is for Solenoid Switch Valve Latched in Low Reverse Position. Solenoid packs were a problem that would set that code in these model cars, but it could be a valve body also. I've replaced both for this code..depends on what set the code. I'd make a trip to a Dodge dealership for a proper diagnosis.

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1999 Dodge Intrepid?

On the 2.7 and 3.2 engines, the thermostat is located at the end of the lower radiator hose, behind the power steering pump. It involves draining the coolant, removal of the lower hose and the the thermostat that is attached to it. On 3.2L engines, you have to remove the oil filter as well. There is a heater hose attached to the thermostat housing at the block that has to be removed also. Its a 2 inch long piece of rubber hose, and you just loosen the clamp on one side of it.

Once you have both hoses off, you can remove the thermostat housing, and the thermostat. It has 2 bolts with 10mm heads. Make sure you replace the gasket and clean the surface.

Its not common for the thermostat to go bad on these cars so check your water pump if you have a 2.7L engine, and inspect the rest of the system to make sure there are no problems elsewhere/.

Real Life Note -- If noticing dripping on ground safely lift car and inspect the underside. If coolant is coming out a small hole (weep hole) next to the thermostat housing, that means your water pump is leaking and it needs to be brought to a mechanic. (major job involving lots of work and removal of many many parts - not the job for weekend mechanic sorry) On the other hand if you see coolant dripping from the thermostat housing that's a $30.00 fix. Replace gasket and buy a new thermostat since you got it apart.

My 2001 Dodge Intrepid water pump went bad at 51000 miles and gasket started leaking at 70000 miles. Water pump cost me $500.00 - Gasket I could do myself.

If you want to make yourself feel better most likely your Intrepid is paid for by now and $500.00 for a fix is what a new car payment is on a decent car. If you have to put $500.00 in the car now to fix it.- what the heck its paid for.

How do you repair the power windows of a 94 Intrepid?

I found the easiest thing to do when having power window problems was to change the window motor(I have changed 3 out of 4 on my 94 intrepid). This is actually quite easy to do as long as you take the time to ensure you have removed all the screws on the interior door panel and be carefull when you take the trim off as the speaker wiring and the wires for the locks and windows will still be attached. good luck

How do you set the cam timing on a v6 2.7 liter Dodge Intrepid?

The marks on the chain and the sprockets are set in such a way that the chain is installed at 50 deg after tdc. This is done so that the pistons are not at tdc where they could hit the valves while trying to install the chain. The marks are the only thing after tdc. When the chain is installed properly, the valves and pistons will be in proper time and the valves will be closed when the piston is at tdc. All you have to do is ine up the plated links on the chain with the proper marks on the sprockets.

When the marks on the chain and the marks on the sprockets are lined up the piston is after tdc. This is how it is supposed to be.

Buy a service manual and follow the directions step by step.

The piston is not At top when marks are lined up.

On a 2.7L, when the timing marks are lined up the piston is not at top dead center. It is about 50 deg past top.

AnswerWhen you removed the pump, how much tension was in your chain? That chain stretches real bad due to engine overheating, even though it will be normal on your gauges in the cab. follow the procedure below, but if your chain has stretched, replacee it. Its best to replace the chain anyway. Also check the oilpump when you check for spark and its quite imperative that you keep the right amout of oil all the time. set both your camshafts to 90degrees with the cylinder head and cover mating surfaces, using the little punched holes as your guides. Set cylinder number one to TDC and align the chain marks on the gears as follows:

The two colored pieces of chain go on the right, and the the left gear and the crankshaft sprocket get one each. Reset your tensioner before reinstalling it or it will fail dismally. Rotete the engine using the crankshaft about three complete revolutions until the timing marks are back to were you set them. Before you close your engine, install the sparkplugs into the boots, but not into the block, then crank your engine and check for spark. If they spark you are good to go. If not remove the camshaft position sensor and try again. If they spark without the sensor in, the rotate you right camshafts by 180 degrees and try again. when working fine, installation is the reverse of the removal.

note, be sure your tensioner is fully reset or you will trhow away your engine like an ex-spouse. signed: mr Houston. mr Houston.

The half moon cut out on the crank sprocket aligns with the arrow on the oil pump housing. If you don't have service manual with a sufficent picture you need to go get one. This timing chain is very complicated.

How do you change a starter in a 1996 Dodge Intrepid?

My Guess would be if you look underneath by the rear of the motor you should see a round object about 8 to 12 inches longand 4 to 6 inches in diamiter. if i am right all you need to do is take a wrench and take out the bolts!

More specificallyOn a 3.3l engine the starter is about mid-engine on the driver's side. Follow the positive battery cable down to help locate it.
  • Always start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. A memory saver that uses a 9-volt battery and plugs into the cigarette lighter is useful as it retains computer and radio information.
  • You'll need to take the usual safety precautions about jacking up a vehicle, including using jack stands.

The starter is held in with three bolts. If I recall, they are 15mm heads. I was only able to use a socket on one of them, the other two required a wrench and more time. Small hands are helpful. Once the three bolts are out, you'll need to unbolt the battery cable and unplug the solenoid wire. When reinstalling, do not over-tighten the battery cable bolt or you can damage the new starter.

Does the AC-PS bracket have to be removed to replace the timing belt on a 99 Ford Ranger 4-cylinder?

hello, if you can work around it,then it's less work for you. if it comes down to it, you have to, then you have too. It's totally up to you... Partner..

I can't imagine trying to change the timing belt without removing the PS/AC bracket. I would recommend removing the A/C compressor (DON'T DISCONNECT *ANY* HOSES) and disconnecting the PS as well. Taking the pumps off makes it easier to get the bracket out of the way and makes it much easier to get the belt on the aux (oil pump) pully.

NOTE that getting the PS pully off requires a special wheel puller (cheep) and a nuts and bolts rig to press it back on the pump.
