How do you save gas on Toyota Camry V6?

User Avatar
This answer applies to any car. Avoid hard acceleration. Accelerating all the way to where you have to lift and apply the brakes wastes fuel.Keep the speed below 60mph where possible. Just overcoming the wind resistance at highway speeds causes much increased fuel consumption. Don't let the car sit and idle. It is not necessary to warm a car up in cool weather. Start it, let it reach smooth running and drive it. It is all a matter of physics. You are using a fuel to produce heat energy and then producing heat energy at the brake assemblies to scrub off inertia.I drive my cars on an average of 8 years and the brake pads are not over 30% gone. If you have heavy brake pad dust accumulation on the front wheels, you are not driving the car conservatively. And yes,I'm an old fart. But I have never wrecked one in almost sixty years of driving. Recomended oil for Toyota 1KD-FTV engine?

User Avatar
I found the best suited oil for the 3.0L TD 1KD is castrol RX super, this oil environments the manafactures specs. RX super is 15W 40, and would not be suitable for environments that reach -7degrees like alpine regions. RX super has good detergent properties to keep your engine clean. althow Toyota recommends oil change at 10 000k intervals, most people would suggest to change at 5000k instead. the engine should take 6.9L of oil with a filter change

How do you get a car dealer's license in Maryland?

User Avatar
According to the Maryland State Motor Vehicle Administration: The State of Maryland requires that all those who sell more than five vehicles per year must be licensed as a dealer. Dealer Licenses are issued by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). The MVA charges a $500 dealer license fee annually. The State does require a dealer bond the amount of which is based upon the amount of vehicles sold.

Do you need to replace the existing shower valve if you want to change the exterior fixtures?

User Avatar
Not always, there is a standard shower valve that most handles will work for. it depends on what your set up is. As far as the shower head is concerned you should be able to put anything on. As I'm standing at Home Depot looking at all the different shower valves on the display I wonder which one is the "standard" that all handles and trim fit on. The fact is unless you are replacing with it the same valve or in some cases the same brand all the trim plates and handles have to be changed. *It TOTALLY depends on the brand and make of your faucet. You would have to determine what brand the faucet is(ex. Moen, Delta), The next move is to determine which model it is(ex. Moen Heritage, Delta Leland). Then you get their own catalogue # and determine what cover plate, handle and screws will fit onto your existing faucet, order them, and replace them. ALL FAUCETS AND THEIR PARTS ARE MADE DIFFERENTLY!!!*Cheers, QuiteSomething Ans 4 - YES, you DO need to replace this valve unless your new fixture is identical

What weight oil does a 1994 Toyota Camry take?

User Avatar
Newer cars recommend 5w-30. However, as your car gets older it may need some help sealing the rings by using 10w-40. It really depends on the time of year you are changing the oil and the mileage the car has on it. In the summer, going through the desert I run 20w-50 in my '95 Camry.

Can a 1991 Toyota Camry 4D Sedan be converted into a undercover law enforcement cruiser and if so what needs to be done?

User Avatar
It's strictly a personal decision based on your likes-dislikes, your abilities and your WALLET. Anything is POSSIBLE. Go for it. A front wheel drive Camry would be useless in a high speed pursuit. Note that there are no Camrys at the Indy 500,only rear wheel drives...... There were some 91 Camry that will build in an All-trac option. V-6 I believe. With a twin turbo there isn't a whole lot that would outrun you. But that is a serious open heart sugery to the vehicle. But ultimate sleeper. I have seen people get up to 400 horses out of that engine with the use of turbochargers. The v6 already came with 4 wheel disk brakes too. I don't think I would expect to be pulled over by an almost 20 year old car.

How do you replace the rear seat belt restraints on a 1995 Buick Riviera?

User Avatar
I'm not sure but I've had the bottom seat out and that just popped out with a lift in the front on each side of the seat. The battery is in there so they're made to come out easy. From there the back of the seat bolts should be visable and you just remove them and you should have access to all belt assemblies. But the real reason I wrote, there was a recall on 1995 rear seat belts that I found on the net. Check with the dealer and have your VIN number available and maybe you'll get them done free.

Asked in Thermostats, Dodge Intrepid, Toyota Camry

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1999 Dodge Intrepid?

User Avatar
On the 2.7 and 3.2 engines, the thermostat is located at the end of the lower radiator hose, behind the power steering pump. It involves draining the coolant, removal of the lower hose and the the thermostat that is attached to it. On 3.2L engines, you have to remove the oil filter as well. There is a heater hose attached to the thermostat housing at the block that has to be removed also. Its a 2 inch long piece of rubber hose, and you just loosen the clamp on one side of it. Once you have both hoses off, you can remove the thermostat housing, and the thermostat. It has 2 bolts with 10mm heads. Make sure you replace the gasket and clean the surface. Its not common for the thermostat to go bad on these cars so check your water pump if you have a 2.7L engine, and inspect the rest of the system to make sure there are no problems elsewhere/. Real Life Note -- If noticing dripping on ground safely lift car and inspect the underside. If coolant is coming out a small hole (weep hole) next to the thermostat housing, that means your water pump is leaking and it needs to be brought to a mechanic. (major job involving lots of work and removal of many many parts - not the job for weekend mechanic sorry) On the other hand if you see coolant dripping from the thermostat housing that's a $30.00 fix. Replace gasket and buy a new thermostat since you got it apart. My 2001 Dodge Intrepid water pump went bad at 51000 miles and gasket started leaking at 70000 miles. Water pump cost me $500.00 - Gasket I could do myself. If you want to make yourself feel better most likely your Intrepid is paid for by now and $500.00 for a fix is what a new car payment is on a decent car. If you have to put $500.00 in the car now to fix it.- what the heck its paid for.

How do you replace the timing belt on a 1987 Toyota Camry?

User Avatar
Advise Changing a timing belt is not considered a beginners job. If you are mechanically inclined (and patient)it can be done and is not particularly difficult. Just remember it takes several hours even for a professional. Most of the cost in paying to have a timing belt replaced is labor. The belt itself only runs $30-40. The complete procedure can not be given in this sort of forum - it is too involved. To see if this something you would like to attempt, start by getting a service manual for your year and model. The manufacturer manuals are the most expensive but are the best for beginners. Other brand manuals are available at most auto supply stores but can be a little confusing for beginners since they cover several model years and they tend to have a more condensed format (hence their low price). The other issue one should be aware of is tools. In addition to having access to basic mechanics tools, this job definitely requires a good quality torque wrench (possibly two), an appropriate pulley puller, and a good leverage-providing breaker bar. One of the traditional challenges to this job is loosening the crankshaft pulley bolt. Study the procedure as described in a manual carefully before deciding if you have the tools, time and patience to attempt it. A correctly installed timing belt is too critical to your engines operation to not do the job properly. - - - - - Forget about the "leverage providing breaker bar." In order to get off the crank pulley bolt with a breaker bar you have to do two things: get a LOT of leverage, and lock the engine so it won't turn. This bolt has about 300 lb-ft of torque on it because they tighten as the engine runs. Go to Harbor Freight, exchange less than $100 for a 3/4-inch drive electric impact wrench, some impact-rated sockets and an adapter set, and you'll be able to screw that bolt out with ease and speed. First time I did one this way I thought I sheared the bolt, it came out so fast.

Cabin air filter is found above the blower motor. Pull it out. New filter has instructions. Walmart is now carrying Fram cabin air filters. Look in the filter section. Parts houses also carry this item.

What does the brake warning light mean?

User Avatar
Answer It means something is wrong with the brake system. Check fluid level first; if it is low, refill it and test the brakes again. Also check that your emergincy brake is fully released. Be sure the parking brake pedal (if it is a push one) is all the way up. Either way, don't delay getting it checked soon. Answer Have you checked to see if you are out of brake fluid? If is a Honda Accord 1992 2 door, you may need to check for bad bulbs/loose connections. Answer The brake light in my car can come on if the parking brake pedal does not come up all the way when I release it. One of the cables going to the rear drums has rust in it causing it to bind and not release all the way. It may indicate that brake system hydraulic pressure is too low to safely stop the car. If the light is on all the time, ensure that the parking/emergency brake is fully released. If the light only comes on when you press down on the brake pedal, check to ensure that you have the proper level of brake fluid in the reservoir and that you have no air in your brake lines. You may need to bleed the air from the brake lines. Check the brake light bulbs to ensure that all of them are working. Some cars can sense a bad bulb and notify the driver by illuminating the brake warning light.
