A regular jaguar lasts about 250,000 miles!
with car running removed Allen screw in center of nut on tran pan and oil will run out slow it ok if not need to fill.
On my 2003 X-Type, I unscrewed the bottom panel under the car using a torx screw driver to get access to the fog light. The Fog light used the same light bulb as the headlights. I hope this information helps you.
Code P1586 is for the electronic throttle. It's either a faulty throtle body or a wiring problem between the PCM and throttle. You may also want to check the relays in the under hood fuse box. Try tapping on the relays as I have seen problems in the connections at that fuse box causing the no start and that code. If that checks out good then the engine may be flooded from sitting. It may be a fuel pump or crank sensor but you should try the clear flood method. Try holding your foot on the gas and cranking the engine. You may want to install a jumper on the battery as this will draw down the battery fairly quickly. Also take a break after 20 seconds of cranking to cool down the starter. You may have to remove the spark p[lgs to clean or replace them. Once removed spray some WD 40 down into the cylinders to build back compression. To check for fuel pressure you can push down on the shrader valve on the passenger side of the rail under the engine cover while cranking. Just be carefull because if there is pressure fuel will squirt out. You can also try to rent a pressure gauge from your local parts store and hook it up to that valve. To check for spark remove a coil and spark plug. Install the coil to the plug and with the coil plugged in and the spark plug touching the metal throttle housing see if there's spark. Or lastly the timing chains may have broken from damaged tensioner which will also cause the no start. If the engine was running smoothly before this then I do not think it's the problem but it is a possibility.
fail safe mode is something the vehicle computer will go into when there is a problem with the vehicle it allows u to get off the highway or road safely you need to take vehicle to repair shop or your dealer which ever u prefer
Failsafe engine mode on a 2000 jaguar s type is caused by a stopped up throttle body. Jaguar says not to clean the throttle body since it has a protective coating to help keep deposits from accumulating. You can clean the throttle body as long as you use ONLY throttle body cleaner that states it is safe to use with a protective coating. The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually stick not allowing air to flow into the manifold causing failsafe engine mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine will produce. To solve the issue just clean out your throttle body, it will cost you around $5 dollars and take 1 hour of your time.Potential AnswerLimp mode initiates when the enginbe computer(s) note a problem that can cause serious damage to the engine or electricsl components. The car engages limp mode and will not go into higher gers as a protective measure.
My Mercedes SLK230 did the same thing; the dealer tested the car and told me there was nothing that could be done and that I should sell the car ASAP. I took the car home, opened up the computer under the passenger side floor board and found that the male-female connectors were not completely seated (some days the car drove well and other times I would have this problem, which almost resulted in several accidents on the highway). I pushed in the computer connectors and the car has been great ever since (2 years now). Therefore, check your computgers to see if you have a loos connection(s).
hope this helps
It is sensor connection under the red light marked s under console inside your car next to your shifter lift console off there is wires connected white red green!
First remove the door panel. move the window 3/4 of the way down and remove the 10mm bolts secureing the window. Then raise the window manually and secure to the top of the window frame with tape. pull back weather sheet and remove the window regulator/motor assembly. be aware s types are known to have faulty window regulator in hot climate zones. so before starting repair listen carefully to the door and use hit the window switch you might hear the motor turning. so you'll no what parts you'll need
For a X reg (2000) Jaguar S- type: to remove the rear left winder mechanism do the following...Remove the door panel: remove two Philips Screws from under the small rubber mat in the door pull recess. Starting at top outer edge lever the panel away from door using something that does not damage the paint (I used a flat wooden spatula) - you will hear the poppers as they release the panel; work down and around the panel using your fingers. At some point the bezel around the door opening handle will become loosened and you need to carefully remove it - I found this awkward. Lift the panel upwards off the door and remove the cable that goes to the switches.Next remove the large access cover made of soft material stuck on with body putty and the circular stick plastic disc covering a hole in the lower centre of the door. Remove the loudspeaker - four bolts into door metal and a cable. Remove the trim strip from the bottom edge of the window opening. Assuming the window can be moved, slide it so the securing peg can be seen through the small hole uncovered when you removed the sticky plastic disk. It appears as two concentric circles of plastic, outside diameter about 1cm, with a hole through the middle. Knock out the middle peg with a punch of about 4mm dia. This will disappear into the door and will be needed later! Once the inner peg is removed the split outer peg can be pushed through releasing the window from the regulator mechanism. Pull the window all the way up and secure with duct tape to the side of the frame so it doesn't crash down. Remove three nuts securing the mechanism push it in to the door void and remove the electric plug. I did this through the speaker apperture and found it awkward to get out - patience is needed if yours is as difficult. Maneuver the mechanism out through the access hole and survey the damage.
This is the same front or rear door. 1. remove rubber insert at the bottom of the arm rest/door handle2. remove the 2. Philip head screws.3. run hand along bottom edge of door panel to ensure no other securing screws. 4. starting at the top rear edge of the door panel side a large flat screw drive/door panel tool(what ever you have) 5. lift sharply and you will here poping noises fromt the push clips lifting out of the socket.6. as you work down the rear edge of the door panel you will see the trim around the interior door handle lift away. remove it.7. the interior door handle will remain on the door. 8. remove the rest of the door panel.
yes but you will have to do a mod to the vehicle. im looking at one as im typingthis response. if your familiar with "godfather customs" they do it. it cost bout 2500 - 3000$
Start by lifting the arm rest lid and then grabing the console from the arm rest end pull sharply upwards. The centre console is only held in by clips. As you make your way towards the ashtray unclip the power jacks to the S(sport) button and the traction control button.
As you are replacing the ashtray you will need to remove the cigar lighter. This will also need unplugging while you are removing the console.
The ashtray is screwed to the console with 2 small torx.
Refit in the opposite way.
Buy a new one from Britishparts for £6 or from Jaguar for £50
something goes wrong with the car and u decide to try to get home under its own power. best to have it towed so you don't spend several hundred dollars more to fix what you break while limping home.
No. The strategy behind the "Limp Home" mode of operation is to ensure that the engine is still operational in case of a worst case scenario: Your stuck in the middle of a desert, cellphone is dead, rattle snake bit you and you seriously need to get to the next town. Walking isn't gonna help...
But even more so to PROTECT the engine itself.
If a critical sensor, like an air flow meter, is faulty, then the engine is at risk of running too lean. When an engine runs too lean, it means that there is more oxygen upon combustion than there is fuel to burn. That extra oxygen is now placed in a high pressure, high temperature environment and it is gonna want to react with something. That's when the Oxygen atom says to his buddy: "Hey, lets walk over to those Aluminum atoms at the bar...?". Thus when the engine runs too lean, then you could potentially burn a hole through your pistons or weld the pistons to the sleeve of your engine-block.
(You might vaguely recall from primary school science experiments that even iron burns in pure oxygen, what happens here is not too different)
For this reason the computer compensates by making sure that the engine is ALWAYS running far too rich. Hence it wont damage your car whilst driving in this mode because it is intended to protect your engine. Cant say the same for your fuel budget though... Sincerely Hein

i believe this to be on the passenger side if not the driver side of the trunk you must remove the side carpet corner by unscrewining the little knobs upper corners
If your oil level is where it should be and If it just for a short time yes, because the oil has not reached the top of the engine from the sump thus causing the noise due to lack of lubrication... It should go away in a matter of a few seconds as soon as there is oil flowing over the valve train and chains. If it is lasting more like a minute i would get concerned something is blocking the oil pick up tube or the oil pump is faulty and oil is not getting up as fast as it should. Just about all cars make a short ticking noise in the begginig especially if they are high on miles... The joy of hydraulic lifters! As it's a 2002 model it has probably been serviced using synthetic oils. If it's done over 60K miles it's probably worth getting an engine flush at the next service. Over time the lifters get 'sticky'. It is good for freeing the sediments from the oil galleries and bearing surfaces too.
My 2003 STR had that problem this summer on and off for a few days, and the manual simply says you should continue but plan on a service stop. A mechanic looked at it and told me it relates to the super-charger, and possibly the altitude/humidity of the air entering the engine. I was in the mountains (above 5,000 feet), the problem has not returned since, so maybe it's altitude.
Try this -- Press and hold MENU for 2 seconds. The display shows "ADJUST CLOCK" with the hours flashing. Press Seek arrow to change the hour. Then press MENU briefly and minutes are flashing. Press Seek arrow to change minutes. If you further press MENU repeatedly the display shows the current time mode and you can press Seek arrow to select 12 or 24 hour mode. Hope this helps.
In the trunk under the mat on the right hand side of the trunk.
Left, front, under the hood. There is also a fuse box located in the spare tire area located at the back of the car (trunk, by the battery).
1. My wife has a 2000 S type with the factory phone option. It is a Motorola P8767 with service from Verizon. It is a digital phone but will only work with Verizon. I have been trying to find a phone compatible with Cingular service.
2. Go to Jaguar web site about Bluetooth Connectivity:
You need to know last six characters of your VIN number to find the list of cell phones that work with your Jaguar communication system.
The Bluetooth® enabled telephone system is controlled from the steering wheel and from the Touch-screen. It allows the driver to make and receive calls safely and easily using a Bluetooth® compatible mobile phone handset without the need for wires or cradles. Different features will be available according to the mobile phone handset used. This area of the website is designed to help you get the best from the Bluetooth® system in the vehicle and get interactive help for your particular handset model.
Once your battery is fully charged again. Disconnect the battery Neg. cable for 10 seconds. Then reconnect Neg. cable. Push your remote unlock button to reset the alarm off. Now turn your radio on and check the radio it should be working. We call this a "hard reset" of the module.
^ I just tried the above sequence, and it did not work.
No there is not. Refer to the owners manuel for a schedule of recommended service. There is a check engine light however this can illuminate at any time when the ECU has a fault code stored in it. Autozone can read the code for you free once you get the code contact the Jag Dealer as to what the code is saying.I cannot emphize more strongly that you MUST follow the maintiance schedueleto the letter, if not you run the risk of problems developing that can be expensive to repair.
the front bumper needs to come off in order to take the headlight assemblys out
Not true, you can actually replace the drivers side headlight without removing the bumper however its not an easy job. Best thing to do is bring to the dealer which will cost you around 30 bucks to do. Its a pain in the a$$ if you do it yourself though, and is probably not worth your time to do it yourself.
Try warming up your car in the driveway for a few minutes before you get on the road. Set the gear to park and press the gas pedal for a minute or two. It should be better. If not, have your car checked out. But it usually works, it definitely works for the Mercedez Benz.
It's to the left (behind) the air filter box. Has a plug connected to it that's facing the radiator or front of the car.
