Contact the State Division of Banking in the state the company is located in.
If they are unable to show proof that you are connected to the debt and have no documentation, then they by law have to remove it from your credit report.
Contact the Federal Trade Commission they can help you with this problem.
Normally by pulling your credit report. Sometimes by speaking to family members and neighbors.
The original account with a normal credit company went to a third party collection agency. Only after it went to the collection agency was the debt paid and then the account closed.
Yes the second collection will be placed on the credit report. But they will remove the first collection agency off the report. In some states it is against the law to be double billed by two collection agency for the same debt.
It is possible.
If you are an authorized user then it is not your debt but your mother's debt. Your mother's bankruptcy discharged (wiped out) the debt in question. The collection agency is not allowed to collect from you as, again, it is not your debt. This would not be the case if you were a joint debtor with your mother.
I am a professional debt collector and would say the best answer would be to either contact your credit card company and see to whom they sold the debt, as they no longer own the debt and therefore can not help you rectify the situation. The other option would be to pull a credit report on yourself and check to see if the collection agency is on your report, or if there was an inquiry on your report from a collection agency.
NO! Once a debt has reached it's statute of limitation it must be removed from your credit report. If a collection company reports the bedt with a new date dispute it immediatly because what they are doing is illegal.
Your main consideration is that your credit report should be at its most favorable. Therefore, whomever you contact, make sure you get in writing that you will pay the debt and, in exchange, you expect the debt to be removed from your report, or at least that the debt should be converted to "good." Usually, once the collection agency is involved, the original company will not deal with you. This is because they now have a contract with the collection agency, who will get a portion of the collected debt. Capish?
A debt collection company.
They are pushing your buttons. The original company has probably written the debt off and it is possibly off of your credit report. Do not pay them one red cent, or they will be able to resurrect the debt.
