There's two types of respiration humans use, when exercising - aerobic respiration - when oxygen is plenty, thus when you are not panting and getting enough oxygen you are using the kind of respiration. It requires the prescence of oxygen and glucose and produces 38 ATP and carbon dioxide, which is is exhaled. The other respiration, when you are panting and not gettiong enough air, is called anaerobic respiration.
