The security system prevents unauthorized operation of the car, your system has been tripped, and the car disabled. You will need to reset the security system to start it. If you have the original key you should be able to do it.
Turn key on and leave it on for ten minutes then it will go out and it will start. It thinks it is being stolen. Just did it to mine. Seems to reset the security system.
If the key for the Pontiac has a security chip in it as well, simply wait about fifteen minutes without doing anything and then your car should start. If the key does not have a security chip you may have to remove the battery to reset the system.
If you changed the battery on a Saturn S-Series 201 and the car will crank over, but won't start, the security system needs reset. Do this by inserting the key and turning it halfway. Leave it this way for 10 minutes before trying to start the car.
I am not sure about the mercury sable but my car does that also, 2003 Pontiac grand am gt, it tells you how to reset in owners manual. I have to turn the key to the on position, wait about 10 minutes and the security light in the dash starts blinking, when that happens...turn the key off and try to start it. Hope this helps
If its the kind with the special metal piece in the key there is no way to reset it you have to change the whole ignition switch
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Leave in this position for ten minutes. Turn key to off then to start. This should reset the security and the car should start right up.
The factory alarm causing the issue would be the security light flashing above the RPM guage. If the security light is flashing and the car will not start, follow the directions listed below. To reset the factory alarm, turn the ignition switch to the "on" position NOT the start position for 15min. You will see the security light go off after 15min.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it into the run position, but don't start the car. Leave the key in the ignition until the security light stops flashing. The car will start now.
to reset the alarm system for a Mercury Sable when the alarm is causing the car not to start, place the key in the ignition. Turn the key only about halfway and leave it in this spot for 10 minutes before trying to start the car.
