When something is wrong internally with your truck, its sends a computerized "code" to your electronics system and the code reads the problem which is what makes the light flash or turn on. Mine has been on for 3.5 years, and i know its the slipped gears in my transmission, so when you take it in to get fixed, they find the problem and reset your computer system to not say "service engine soon"! NEW ANSWER: Put your key's in your pocket, Then unhook the NEG. cable on the
battery for at least 30 MIN. This will clear the codes on this year truck. Hook cable
back up and start engine, light will be off. But if you did not fix the problem that
made the light come on in the first place, It WILL come back on,
