Disconnecting the battery may reset the brake pad worn sensor light on a 2002 VW Beetle. Another thing to check is the harness, if it is not plugged in after installing brake pads the sensor light will go on.
There isn't any reset on the brake pad light; if your pads are replaced and the sensor on the pads are plugged in properly it should go out. Some shops try to install pads without sensors from older models that do fit, but have no sensors. you can test your sensors checking for continuity with a multimeter or test lamp. Additionally, you may test your system by unplugging the pads and jumping the plug on the car ( not the pad), if the warning light goes out; check the continuity of the pad, if the pad test good then it is likely a connection issue.
The front pads have a wear sensor in them. the light comes on when the pads get too thin.
replace the pads and the light will go off.... like magic !
