The easy way is to disconnect the negative cable on the battery for about 20-30 minutes or more. This resets the codes and clears out any garbled programming that may have entered the chips during operation by allowing the power to totally leave them. It's like rebooting you home computer, has the same effect. If your problem was solved by doing this it will run better.
The reason you don't disconnect the positive side is because of the potential to hit a grounded area with the tool you are using causing a spark. In some cases this has been known to fry the ECU. Better safe than sorry.
Also most auto parts store will read the codes for free and clear the codes as well.
need to know normal gas mileage for 96 astro van
40 a or 40 b fuse i think
It should be at the bottom front of the engine by the timing cover.
there is no need to reset the computer for an 02 sensor.
If you unhook the battery for an hour, when you re-connect the cable it should reset the computer.
I have a 96 astro cargo van and the most I have been able to put in the gas tank after coasting into gas station on empty was between 24 and 24.5 gallons. you may be trying to read an OBD 1 vehicle on an OBD 2 scanner. I think OBD 2 wasn't widely used until 95 or 96. I know my 93 Camaro is OBD1
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem
I can get hold of most of the parts you would normally require for the Astro, and have many available from stock Cheers Neil Midgebuster Spares http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Midgebuster-Spares
You have to unplug the ground from your battery for 1 or 2 minutes.
As with most automotive computers the normal procedure for resetting the cars computer is to disconnect the battery for one mintue. After that reconnect the battery and your vehicles computer should be reset. If this fails you may need to bring your vehicle to the dealership and have them reset the car's computer through a diagnostic machine.
