Read this response from another website. I am looking for the answer to this problem. I have not tried this proposed solution yet:
"On my 92 you can cycle the key on and off 3 times. On the 3rd keep it in the on position. The check engine light should begin flashing, which will tell you the codes. Then you can search some Dakota archives to find it. I do not know for certain that this method works on an 89 though. An OBDI scantool will do the trick as well. Check Autozone, they will scan for free, and I think they can do the older vehicles with OBDI too".
aperantly take the light out
What do the REQD light mean on my dashboard of my 1993 Dodge Dakota 3.9L Truck
To reset the maintenance required warning light on a 1989 Dodge Dakota, unhook the battery connector cables for 10 minutes. Reconnect them and start the vehicle.
The maintenance light,You will need to take it to a Dodge dealer to reset it. Or get a DBR-2 code scanner.BIG $$$
That requires a scan tool.
Turn the key on, with the engine off, and press the gas pedal 3 times.
You can reset the check engine light on a 2007 Dodge Dakota by unhooking the battery. Leave it unhooked for 10 minutes before reconnecting it.
With a scan tool.
A Dodge Dakota does not have a reset switch.
Repair the problem and then reset it with an OBD2 scan tool.
After repairing the failure that caused the code, the lights will reset themselves.
That requires a scan tool.
