I have the same car with the same ussual sunfire electrical problems From all the hours of trial and error and extensive research that I have done, my conclusion is this.
GM is very aware of this problem but does not care, these problems are continuious for the life of the car.
GET RID OF IT!!!!!!FAST it will end up costing you thousands to keep fixing a sunfire.
Just wait till you get the dreaded headlight wiring harness problem.
All I did was change my battery and it went into antitheft mode. What a joke that you must have a dealership involved just to change your battery, tell me that wasnt part of their master plan.
If you have solved this problem please let me know, Ive done everything Ive learned to reset it but it still wont turn over.
While driving sometimes the theft system light would flash on and stay on and my car will act funny while its on. it will feel like i am hitting the breaks 2-3 times in a row and quit. Then usually the next day i will get into my car and try to start it and the light starts flashing on and off. It will crank over and start for about 2 seconds then just die... The research I've found is that the starter may be going out or the egnition switch may be bad..but after messing with my car for about 15 minutes on and off, I tried this. Lock and unlock doors then put the key in the ignition and turn key forward to the on position without trying to start it, put the gear in Neutral then back to Park. For me that worked, the light stopped flashing after a few seconds and then started.
It doesn't have one unless you put one in yourself
no
disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 mins this will reset computer it will do it for sure
You have to unplug the ground from your battery for 1 or 2 minutes.
Master reset for what? Be more specific. unhook the negative cable from the battery for 30 seconds
The radio on your 2000 Sunfire is probably reading "loc". If this is the problem, you need to go to a Pontiac dealer and pay them to unlock the radio. This is an anti theft device to insure your radio can not function if it is removed. The cost is from 10 to 20$
Unhook battery cables (both) for about 5-10 minutes. Then rehook. This may reset the system. If problem persists, then the CEL will come back on.
If its the kind with the special metal piece in the key there is no way to reset it you have to change the whole ignition switch
Fill your coolant reservoir and the light should turn off. Do it soon or your engine may over heat.
