I have a 2008 Subara Impreza. When should i change the timing belt? Do i also need to change the cogs, tension bars and water pump??
105k is the recommended time.
As far as I know, all subarus have timing chains.
A diagram for a 1998 Subaru Impreza can be found in a factory service repair manual. Local auto part stores are also connected to a computer database which will have a library of timing belt diagrams for every make and model.

typically $250 - $300. just paid $260 to do my '02 impreza RS.
The 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder has a cam belt that MUST be changed every 105,000 miles. This is an interference engine.
Most cars with a rubber timing belt and not a timing chain should be replaced between 80-100k miles. I believe the impreza has an interference engine which means if the timing belt breaks while driving you will have a much more expensive repair, as the valves may need replacing as well. If you have no proof that the timing belt was done by a previous owner you should have it done as well.
According to the local Subaru dealership, it should be replaced at 105,000 miles (U.S.). Estimated price for parts and labor as of 2007 is $625.00 USD.
Subaru uses a belt.
Subaru does use a timing belt. Please ask a question that can be answered.
My 2005 Subaru Impreza has a timing belt. And it just cost me an engine. Make sure you replace it based on the owners manual. Should be about every 100k miles. Don't make the mistake I made and neglect this.
