You can't do that on Windows Live Movie Maker, but you can extract the audio from a video in Windows Movie Maker v2.6 and save/publish it as an audio file.
Make sure you have Published/Finished your Windows Movie Maker project file first. Once you have done that, download and install an audio converter on your computer. Use the converter to convert the .wma audio file (produced by Windows Movie Maker) into a .mp3.
Music / audio can be imported into Windows Movie Maker as long as the file is compatible. Drag and drop the audio file into the Music/Audio track in the Time-line view of the program. You will see the file appear in the Music/Audio track if the file is compatible.
You probably have a corrupt audio file. It should play all the way through on Windows Movie Maker. Try importing another audio file to test that theory.
To change your Windows Movie Maker audio file name extension (format) to .wma all you need to do is Publish/Finishit.Published video is exported in .wmv format, while audio is mixed-down into .wma format.Simple. Publish/Finish the project audio.
Windows Movie Maker is not an 'Audio Editor' per say. It can't mix music in other words. However, you can create a stand alone .wma (audio) file:> In the time-line view of Windows Movie Maker> Drag an audio file into the Music/Audio track> Depending on your version of the program, click either Publish/Finish movie> Name the file and choose a destination to save it> Click Next> Choose: Best quality for playback on my computer recommended> Click Publish/Finish MovieThe file will be saved as a .wma in the destination you selected. If you wish to change it to a different format, you will need to use an Audio Converter. Windows Movie Maker will only publish/finish audio in .wma.
You do not have any other audio publishing options other than .wma if you are editing it in Windows Movie Maker. My suggestion is... edit the audio in Windows Movie Maker; publish/finish it in .wma format; then convert it to .mp3 using an Audio Conversion program.
A Windows Movie Maker project file is in .MSWMMformat.
The audio file you are trying to import into Windows Movie Maker is probably not compatible with the program. Audio files compatible with Windows Movie Maker include:aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wmaIf the file name extension (format) of the audio in not one of those listed above, you are going to have to convert it before it can be imported.
A Windows Movie Maker project file is in .MSWMMformat.
You can't index a file for Windows Movie Maker.
In Windows Movie Maker, click on Import. Browse for and locate the audio file you wish to use and click Import.
It means the file name extension (format) is incompatible with Windows Movie Maker, or you are attempting to import a DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected audio piece.
