There is both a formal and informal way to say is. The formal format being "desu" and the informal being "da yo" (the most informal would be just to get rid of the "desu" all together). "yo" is used for emphasis on the point that is being made.

Formal: "Oishii desu." (It is delicious.)

In-formal: "Oishii da yo" (It is delicious!)
