I will not argue with a deaf person (below), but I do interpret. I know 2 signs for friend; 1- slightly curl the index fingers, and cross them right over left, then left over right, and 2- curl the index fingers, cross them, and make a small circling motion. The instruction below seems a little odd because it is impossible to cross the fingers and then circle them in 'opposite' directions.

You place your two index fingers in a cross and then move them round in the opposite direction. That is friend. I am deaf so ask me any stuff and i will answer it!
