Bow = "jousi"
In Finnish we do not use the terms up and down in this case. We use the terms push and pull. Therefore up bow is työntöjousi as the bow is pushed. Down bow is vetojousi as the bow is pulled.
a bow lift is when you lift the bow off the violin strings and move to another part of the bow then place it back on the string. for example if you needed to do 2 down strokes in a row, you would start with the bottom of the bow (or the frogue) on the string then pull the bow to the tip. you would then lift the bow off the string and place it back at the frogue and pull the bow again.
How is miten in Finnish.
For you is sinulle in Finnish.
If, instead of pressing it against the fingerboard, you just touch a string very lightly - in the middle say - then, when you bow or pluck that string, it will sound a note twice as high as when it is an open string. Many other harmonics can be sounded if you only touch lightly on the string in several other positions while you bow or pluck it.
