water and alcohol have different boiling point; you heat them untill the boiling point of the alcohol( the boiling point of alcohol is lower than water) so that you can collect the evaporated alcohol and left behind the water.

Precipitate the acid with a base, preferably a dilute NaOH. It will separate between a salt and the liquid (which would be alcohol and some residual water). Vacuum filter the solution which will get rid of the alcohol (or if you want to save it), and the left over solid can be redissolved with water to obtain a solution of the acid.

What type of reaction has takin place when an ester is broken down to an alkanoic acid and alkanol?

The parent carboxylic acid and the parent alcohol can be obtained by hydrolysis of an ester. Hydrolysis is a reaction in which a molecule is split up by the chemical action of water. The breakdown of an ester is an example of hydrolysis because water is used to separate the ester into alcohol and a carboxylic acid.

Which from acetic acid or salicylic acid in aspirin is an alcohol?

Aspirin is a protected name belonging to Bayer A.G. (in some countries) for acetylsalicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid, meaning that it's both an acid and an alcohol. It serves as the alcohol in the esterification reaction.

Why is acid alcohol rather than ethyl alcohol used as a decolorizing agent in the acid fast staining experiment?

Alcohol is a term used for any O-H group that is attached to a carbon. Perhapes the alcohol is found in a Safranin stain. I hope I have this right but if alcohol was used as the decolorizing agent, it may wash out too much stain to get a good view in an oil emersion microscope.
