all Kia have a default timing connector you must disconnect if you want to check timing, called base timing connector.some are inside passenger floorside others are inside hood along firewall.this sets the base timing, remember electronic timing is set with with a combination of crank position sensor, timing sensor, knock sensor, and if they are working correctly then it is hooked to a computer for tweeking to get the proper results. the days of the old timing light are basically gone, but i still use it to verify what the computer is telling the engine when to fire.
