The timing mark(s) is/are etched on the cranckshaft pulley, you may need to scrub the edge of the pulley with scotchbrite or steel wool or maybe a steel brush to locate them since they may be obscured by rust or grime. If you still can't find the timing marks, you can time it "by ear" this way: Loosen the hold-down bolt on the distributor just enough where you can turn the distributor by hand; start the engine and let it warm up; with the engine running, manually and slowly roate the distributor clockwise and/or counterclockwise until you get the best "purr" of the engine. Tighten the hold-down bolt. Be very careful not to get your shirt sleeve or arm caught while doing it. Good luck.

Why cant you put any 5.0 engine in your 1991 mercury grand marquis
will 22 fit on my 1999 grand marquis or do i need to add a lift kit fit the rims
Then the engine will not run
You cant "reset" the timing on these. It has computer controlled ignition timing. If there is a timing problem check the crank sensor.

ive been playing with the engine i have here and from what i can tell its electronic ignition so you cant adjust the spark timing but you can adjust the cam timing. the timing marks are located on the "flywheel" where the stator is. there is a bolt with a flat head slot on the left side of the engine that you can remove to see these marks. hope this helps
have your starter tested, the solenoid on the starter sticks sometimes
