You need to be at a complete stop in order to do the following steps:

1.) Move the gear selector into the "N", or "Neutral" position.

2.) Make sure that the brake is pressed down about halfway to the floor.

3.) Turn the Electronic Control-Trac selector to "4WD LOW", while keeping your foot on the brake.

4.) After about 5 seconds, a light should illuminate on your gauge panel; "4WD LOW".

After this happens, you may safely put the car in drive, and your Explorer is in 4WD Low.

Caution:

- Make sure you're not moving, or moving less than 3 M.P.H. while doing this (damage to the transfer case/drivetrain may occur.)

- Make sure that it fully engages by waiting for the light to come on the dash.

- You should never drive faster than 40 M.P.H while in 4WD Low.

- Keep it in drive (Selecting gears may cause damage to the differential/transfer case).
