This is an inconsistency of the English language.
Headlights is spelled with one word, yet tail lights is divided into two words. The reason given is that taillights is awkward for reading.
That is the correct spelling of the plural noun "taillights" (car lights).

Is it the taillights or the brake lights? If taillights it may be a wiring problem, If brake lights check the switch on the brake pedal
It should say TAIL for taillights or maybe brake lights.
usually the dash lights and taillights are on the same fuse.
Check your fuses! -I once got a ticket for 'no taillights' when my dashlights were fine -it was the fuse.
Check your fuse for tail lights. I think the dash and tail lights are on the same fuse so you know when your tail lights don't work. Might have a short or an open in that circuit.

The fuse is blown. They put the dash lights and tail lights on the same fuse so that if you are driving at night the absence of the dash lights will be made relevent to you in order to get your tail lights fixed.

Open rear door hatch. There on top of the rear tail lights you will see two or three screws. Remove those screws and gently remove the tail lights. When your done with the tails lights reinstall.
