The method you describe could cause you problems and in certain circumstances could cause a fire. In connecting a severed extension cord back together again the purpose is to bring the insulation value back to its original value. The severed cord ends should cut back to expose the conductors. The proper connecting device should be a "crimp butt splice" sized to fit your wire size of the cord. Stagger these splices along the wires you are reconnecting so they are not parallel to each other and create a large lump in the cord. Over these splices a rubber amalgamating tape should be used to fill the voids around the wires and to bring the diameter back to the original outer diameter to the cord. Over the rubber tape should be wound PVC electrical tape. Double wrap the tape from one end of the splice to the other end of the splice and back again. This repair will give you many more years of service from the cord with out any problems.
He do you splice and rewire an iphone4 cord
No, not by itself. The cord should be replaced. If that is impractical, an electrician can cut out the melted part, connect the wires back together, then tape the wires and then the cord around the repair. This fix is pretty safe and secure.
yes you can, but make sure you do the following instructions. First, make sure that when you twist the proper colours back together, black with black, white with white or red with red if they are different that when you twist them back together you do not loose any fine wires from either end. They should always be the same polarity, so if you do you have to start over at the end you lost it at and make them equal wiring again. Then twist them together but make sure they are not too long but long enough for one of those coloured twist tops for protection of having a shortage electrically. Then take electrical tape and tape it completely. You then should be able to enjoy.

You can either splice the wires together, then tape it with electrical tape, which will then form a connection again, or you can go buy another one. If it were me, I'd buy a new one.
The best answer is that you do not. A new cord is $40. Infinitely cheaper than burning down your house.

yes but it, not advised very dangerous (house fires) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ive did it many times, just make sure you use good electrical tape, and tape each splice seperately, then tape the 2 together. you want there to be no chace of the wires touching, so use a fair amount of tape.
The only way you can splice Home electric wiring is with a junction box. Any other way will and can cause fires.
