a single phase motor must have at least 4 poles

one set is connected to the line

the other is connected in series thru a capacitor or inductor to shift phase and set up a rotating magnetic field

the rotor usually has a squirrel cage that will start turning

the slip rings can have different purposes depending on how the rotor is wound

if the highest rpm of the motor is a multiple of the line frequency 3600RPM for 60Hz 2 pole you apply dc to the winding to make it synchronous.

if the hi speed of the motor is 3470RPM the squirrel cage is weak

and you must short the rings to get up to the high speed

there is beauty in this in that if you vary the resistance from short to open it will be a variable speed motor

How do you start single phase induction motor?

capacitive start motors start by themselves however a normal single phase induction motor requires a starter motor to 'kick-start' the motor into action.

How single-phase induction motor classified?

The single phase induction motors are made self starting by providing an additional flux by some additional means. Now depending upon these additional means the single phase induction motors are classified as: 1.Split phase induction motor. 2.Capacitor start inductor motor. 3.Capacitor start capacitor run induction motor. 4. Shaded pole induction motor.

Single phase induction motor ( usually capacitor- start type)

What s the role of capacitor in a single phase induction motor?

to start the motor and give more current to motor to run

Applications of induction motor?

A single phase induction motor is mainly used in fans.It is capacitor start capacitor run induction motor. In three phase induction motor squirrel cage induction motor is mainly used in elevators, lifts, cranes.slip ring induction motor is mainly used in electrically driven ships.

What motor is used for running lathe spindle?

Single phase induction motor ( usually capacitor- start type)

Do all single phase motors have a start and run winding?

No, commutator motors as used in vaccum cleaners for example do not use a starting winding. Single-phase induction motors need a starting winding without which they will start in either direction if given an initial twist.

Is three phase induction motor continue running when any of the two phase is disconnected?

This question doesn't really make any sense - any of the two phase? A three phase induction motor requires 3 phases to start - if a single phase is lost while the motor is already running then yes the motor will continue to run. A three phase motor will not start if it is missing a phase.

Why do you use codenser in fan?

fan is a capacitor start capacitor run single phase induction motor. since single phase induction motors are not self starters, caused by discontinuty in stator mmf. so to iniate rotation single phase supply is splitted 90 degree apart by a capacitor to convert it to a 2 phase motor, which produces a continued synchronously revolving mmf in stator to start the motor. cool !!

How do you start three phase induction motor?

Three Phase Induction Motor is self starting motor so you can start it by conneting to power lines directly if the power line capacity is sufficient.

What are four types of single phase motors?

Some examples of single-phase motors include split-phase, capacitor-start, shaded pole, and permanent split capacitor (PSC) motors. Each type has its own unique design and application, offering different characteristics and performance capabilities.
