How do you start the computer in safe mode when it goes blank after rebooting?

Restart the computer, and prior to Windows starting to load, press the F8 key. This will bring up a number of options, including options to start Windows in safe mode. You may need to repeatedly press F8 to get this. Older computers may use the left shift key.
Alternatively, if you are able to boot into Windows normally, click Start -> Run, and type msconfig. Select the option for diagnostic startup, and have it restart the machine. This should accomplish the same thing.
