To state genotypes of different characteristics, you need to use a letter in uppercase and lowercase form. For example, to state a genotype for the genetics of tall and short, you can use T and t.
Tall = T short = t Tall plants genotype would either be TT or Tt, and short plants genotype would be tt.
if we assume tall plant <T> & short plant as< t> genotype of tall plant ; TT genotype of short plant ; tt
it depends on genetics if your parents are short you will be short if your parents are tall you will be tall
The genotype of the tall pea plant is heterozygous
Allele for tall stem (dominant)- T Allele for short stem (recessive)- t The F1 generation would all be tall-stemmed plants with the genotype Tt (heterozygous). The F2 generation would consist of: 25% Tall plants with the genotype TT (homozygous dominant) 50% Tall plants with the genotype Tt (heterozygous) 25% Short plants with the genotype tt (homozygous recessive)
The genotype of the tall pea plant is heterozygous!
Grigor Mendel ,in his experiments used garden pea plants to find out the secrets of genetics i.e., the 'gene' . First he cross a plant having different features suppose 1. he cross pollinated the tall plant and a short plant their genotype must be TT . tt respectively. its result must be full tall plants ,having genotype Tt [F1 progeny] 2. then he self pollinated the F1 progeny i.e., Tt.Tt the result was in the ratio 3 is to 1 ,where 3 is for tall plants and 1 is for short plants ..
A tall looking pea plant can have a genotype of Tt or TT.
Tt is a genotype. Each letter is called an allele and represents a different trait. For instance, the T could stand for tall, and the t could stand for short. Because the T is a capital letter, it is the dominant trait. In the case of Tt, the person would be tall. If the genotype was TT, the person would again be tall. If the genotype was tt, the person would be short. All traits are represented by two or more alleles. Things like blood type are represented by multiple alleles.
The word genotypes is in reference to the alleles an individual receives at fertilization. Lets say that the allele/gene/trait, genotype for the Tall plant is T and dominate and the allele/gene/trait genotype for the short plant is t and recessive. If the genotype is an homozygous allele/gene/trait has two dominate alleles/genes/traits seen as two capital letters ex: dominate tall=TT or if the genotype is homozygous with two recessive alleles/genes/traits it will have two lower case letters ex: short=tt. If the genotype is heterozygous is a Tall plant that means the allele/gene/trait will have one dominate T=Tall and one recessive t=short and it will look like this Tt and with this genotype a Tall plant will be produce "T", even though that plant will still carry an allele/gene/trait for shortness "t". Tips: homozygous [Gk.homo means same and zygous means balance] & heterozygous [Gk.hetero means different and zygous means balance]
If gene T is responsible for tallness in a plant, then Tt will be genotype of a heterozygous tall plant.
Having one allele for tall stems and one allele for short stems is a heterozygous genotype and could be represented as Tt, where T represents the tall allele, and t represents the short allele, if the tall allele has complete dominance over the short allele.
