Jumping up is a common behavior problem among dogs. You may be annoyed by your excited, overly exuberant dog attacking you the minute you step through the front door.

But it can actually be dangerous for small children, people who have physical disabilities, some older people, and people who aren't expecting your dog's greeting.

The good news is that you can train your dog to stop jumping on people and start greeting everyone more politely.

There are a number of theories about why dogs jump up on people; popular among these are dominance and greeting behaviors.

The truth is, though, that your dog is probably jumping up to say, "Look at me!"

So How to Solve Dog Jumping Behavior ?

Management: Management means you must control the situation so your dog doesn't have the opportunity to jump up. Use management techniques until your dog is adequately trained not to jump.

Training: Teach your dog that they receive no attention for jumping on you or anyone else. Teach your dog to do something that is incompatible with jumping up, such as sitting. They can't sit and jump up at the same time. If they are not sitting, they get no attention.

Training Techniques: There are some techniques that you need to put into practice to have a well behaved dog who is free of any kind of a behavioral problem, leave aside jumping behavior.

The only thing that I can think of in regards to the fence, is to add more fence to the top and angle it in towards the pen. The other option is to put in an "invisible fence". There are many companies that will bury an electrical wire under the ground around the perimiter of the yard. The dog will wear a collar that senses the current in the wire and when the dog gets near it the collar will vibrate or give off a sound. If the dog gets too close then the collar will shock the dog. After a while the dog will learn the boundries of it's yard and will not even attempt to cross "the line". Most of these systems work really good and have saved many a dog from running across the road and, well you know.

Well all puppies are different. They usually jump because they are excited, or want to be at your level. Try kneeling next to them and petting them so they feel like they are at your level. If that dosent work gently but firmly grab their front paws and squeeze them every time they jump while stepping on their back paws.

A person can stop their dog from jumping by taking them to a trainer. When a dog jumps, the owner can loudly say "no" to the dog and put their paws on the ground.

add a little more to the fence. Or you can dig a trench near the fence so that your dog cannot jump. another suggestion is have your dog on a long rope.

How do you train your puppy to be polite?

Do not allow a puppy to do anything you do not want an adult dog to do. No jumping on people (say Down with conviction), keep the pupply leashed when you have visitors. Use a harness, not a collor, many dogs pull too hard and damage the windpipe. Go to websites and read up on puppy training.
