Get a spray bottle from some discount store and fill it with water (the colder the better, but no ice). When your cat acts up, spray him right in the face. After a period of time he will realize this happens when he acts up. It doesn't help your cat, though, if you play roughly with him sometimes and then other times you don't want him to play. Be consistent; if you are playing and he gets too rough, spritz him. Most cats don't like water.

Answer Just so you know spraying bottle sometimes backfires too. My male cat was absolutely fine (even if he HATED IT), he got the message. He still knows I love him. But my female cat associated spraying = my hand... So she hates my hand getting close to her! Especially if you spray their face, they can get SPITEFUL. My male cat just didn't get the message if I just spray his body, he just hates wetness, but he loves to play with water (like pawing it, splashing it, etc). ... So I had to spray in his face. But my female cat hates water, 'cept for drinking it. So she got very spiteful and didn't even want to eat treats from my hand after I sprayed her. So it's possible your cat might start hating the person doing the spraying and only be affectionate around others. >_< it's kinda like your kid saying "i like dad more than mom!" only because dad's only home after work (i mean if mom's a staying-home mom) and won't scold the daughter for bad behavior since he doesn't get to see the daughter very much while as mom would be scolding the daughter for any bad behavior to not spoil her. But in truth, the parent who tries to fix the bad behavior is only doing it for the kid's benefit. (and look at all those parents out there who spoil their kids, and their kids being so selfish and rude!)

Treat her/him nicely, don't rub her/his belly, (she/he is not a dog), don't scratch her/him too hard and also, watch how your cat reacts to you when you walk by. If she/he runs away, but has been acting hyper, than don't worry if she/he runs away. But if she/he runs away after you just held her, she probably doesn't like the way your holding her/him. Hope this helps! :)

Also, you can give your cat "time outs." If they start to bite you when you are doing nothing wrong, then ignore them for a few minutes, no more than around 3. Go back and start petting them again, and if they start to bite give them another time out. This should only be done about 3 times per day.

Cats are somewhat intelligent and as kittens they play a lot with their siblings. Biting is one of the games they play. When the kitten that is getting bitten screams out to the kitten that is biting telling it to stop, it stops. Because of this behavior, I notice that when they are biting I say, "Ouch! Ouch! and look hurt towards the cat or kitten." Normally the cat stops biting me. Feeling bad the cat then licks me where it bit me. This does happen and it works. After awhile the cat stops biting me unless we are playing.

don't let them scratch you.

whenever they want to get to you and scratch you, keep them away.

the cat will be tired to scratch you and end up searching something else to scratch on, for instance your furniture, your clothes and etc.

Carry a water pistol with you. When it bites you, spray it. Although NEVER let it know you spary it else it becomes a game and bites you more.

Another method is to watch your cat's behaviour, and learn how it acts just before biting, and to ignore the cat before it can bite. Refrain from letting the cat play with your hands. If the cat does bite, ignoring is the best way. A cat will quickly get bored that its "prey" is not reacting and will quickly let go. It is never ideal to punish a cat for bad behaviour, but rather to praise highly when the cat is gentle.
