How do you stop the day time running lights from going off when turn signal in on on a 2002 gmc sonoma?

As far as I know, the only way to do that is to turn the daytime running lights off. Not sure how to do that in the 4.3 liter, but in my 2002 with a 2.2L, there's a button near the headlight switch. Just push it in 4 times in a row to turn the DRL's off. You should hear a chime after the fourth time you push it. Repeat the process to turn them back on.

I have been told that there is a locking clip that holds the switch together. If the clip comes loose the dash lights and running lights won't work when you pull it out. To check if this is what is going on turn on the lights, very slightly push the switch in (like you are going to turn it off) you will find the dash light and the running lights will come back on. I'm not sure how to re-attach the clip that keeps coming loose.
