Sounds like a Passat 1.8. If the light is coming on, welcome to the world of 1.8l sludge. One solution= Engine flush at dealer and only use synthetic from then on. VW knows about this problem and the dealers have the repair instructions. This answer comes from experience.
You can but it is not a good idea. If your engine is misfiring then unburnt fuel will enter the exhaust. This will damage the O2 sensor and eventually destroy the catalytic converter costing you big time. Stop driving the car until you can have it repaired.
The blinker relay is broken. It is located inside the hazard switch. Replace the switch and it will fix your problem.
