Find and remove the chime.
Pull the key out just a little and the chime will stop. It may be controlledfrom the radio
My 1995 Ford Explorer has also done that occasionally ( although I have removed the ignition key as soon as I open the drivers door , the key in ignition chime starts " going " ) What I do is put the ignition key back in and then remove it again and the chime will stop Give that a try
Do you mean the key in ignition chime?
Head lights on?
take the key out of the ignition switch.
No , my 1995 will do that once in a while and I just poke the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder once or twice and it will stop ( at least so far ! )
It might be a problem with your mutlifunction computer. Check to see if your ignition wires are still connected to the multifunction computer. I had the opposite problem where I couldn't get the chime on my 1998 Ford Explorer Sport to stop chiming or ringing or pinging. After isolating the noise, I found that the chiming was coming from a black box under the dash, behind the radio. Opening the box, looking at its circuit board AND a web search of the numbers on the box showed that it was a multifuntion computer. On my Eplorer, there is a set of wires in yellow sheath, running from the ignition along the steering column, and connecting to a brown plug. The other end of this plug has wires connecting to the multifunction computer via a wire harness. I unplugged the wires at the brown plug aka connection point. This stopped the key-in-ignition chiming. I still get the alert chime when the lights are on. I still get the initial chime when I turn the key. But I no longer get the key-in-ignition chime. Check the connection between your ignition and the multifuction computer.
The owners manual for a 2001 F150 shows fuse # 15 as a 5 amp fuse for the stop lamp switch , ( speed control , brake shift interlock ) GEM module , RABS module so I wouldn't recommend it ! When my door chime goes off without the key in the ignition I just poke the key into the ignition lock cylinder once or twice and when I remove the key again the chime has stopped
There is no chime for the headlights or key in the ignition with the door open
Could it be any of these; Safety belt warning chimeChimes to remind you to fasten your safety belts. Supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning chime For information on the SRS warning chime, refer to the Seating and safety restraintschapter. Check door pin switches
It is important to know what causes things to stop working within a car. A blown fuse or bad wiring can cause the key and headlight chime to stop working.
