Use a spray bottle and fill it with water. Everytime the rabbit chews on something it isn't supposed to, spray it with water until it stops chewing. Give it plenty of chew toys that are suitable for chewing

Two possible reasons:

1. It is bored and frustrated - going mad - if it never gets out for stimulation/exercise/company; rabbits are not meant to be kept in cages.

2. Dietary deficiency. Rabbits depend on fresh vegetables ( eg. carrots, cabbage, leafy lettuce (romaine, red/green leaf, etc), grass - but not iceberg lettuce or celery - they cannot digest cellulose well) to eat, both for nutritional health and to keep their teeth worn down at the right size, as their teeth never stop growing.

To keep the rabbit from chewing on his cage, give him something to do : take an old toilet paper tube and stuff it with newspaper on the inside, and he may chew on this "toy"and not the cage.

However, you may find that your rabbit just wants to be out running around, which is natural for him. Give him plenty of time outside of his cage, or even better, consider making him a house rabbit and allowing him access to one or more rooms of your house at all times.

(see the related link for information on house rabbits)

Just remember, rabbits are highly intelligent and highly emotional creatures. They require a lot of care and attention.

bar chewing can cause brain damage and broken teeth.Probably your Gerbil/hamster/rabbit is chewing on the bars from boredom.Try to arrange your toys around the cage so they will be more interested and will explore playing with their toys in a new place. You could get a barless cage or an aquarium to stop the bar chewing or give it a tree branch without pesticides or wooden chews available at Amazon.com or nearby pet stores.Hope I helped :)

I've raised many rabbits and i have found that when they're chewing wood, carpet etc.it's been because they are trying to file down their teeth as their teeth are constantly growing!when my rabbits are chewing wood, carpet etc.they've had points on their teeth which are like sharp needles diging and cutting into their cheek! This can cause so much pain that they stop eating!GO to exotic vet immediatly if that happens. They will remove points. To prevent rabbits from chewing things they should'nt,offer plenty of hay for chewing.pet stores have alfalfa and timothy sticks which mine love.Offer something like that when you catch them chewing something they should'nt be chewing.Alot of chew snacks have corn or corn starch in them.Stay away from those!Corn and corn products can cause serious digestive problems and even kill your bunny!Research what are safe foods for rabbits, corn is not one of them but i see corn in alot of treats at pet stores for rabbits.Good luck!

Let them out? Rabbits are social creatures that require care and attention from you. They need exercise and enrichment and should not be kept in a hutch all day long.

Let him/her out more often. If he/she is biting the cage, that means it wants to come out and play! My hamster does it all the time!

Why do gerbils keep on chewing on the bars in my cage?

Gerbils are rodents, and rodents' teeth NEVER stop growing. So you need A LOT of chew toys in the cage, but the bar chewing is a way to file their teeth down. Even if you have chew toys, they can be picky so you mayhave to try lots of toys. Store bought apple branches work well for my mice. Your gerbil may like them too! You can buy them in most Pet Smarts. :)

How can you stop a hamster from chewing in the bars of its cage?

This is a normal thing that rodents do because their teeth do not stop growing. Put some wooden toys inside the cage for them to chew on instead. This helps to wear the teeth down.

Can hamsters chew through metal?

If the hamster is chewing the bars of the cage, nothing as long as you keep an eye on the cage bar and make sure that the hamster is not eating through the cage! If it is chewing the cage bars it's a sign that he wants to come out. However if your mean that you are feeding him wire then stop cos it'll get caught in the hamsters throat or organs and cause a very traumatic death!

How do i stop my gerbil chewing the top of it's water bottle without buying a new cage?

Any cage material that is plastic should be removed. If the cage is plastic, try your best to get a tank for the little ones. If you can't manage that, try to distract them with dyeless toilet roles and other clean paper products. Gerbils shouldn't have plastic in their environment because it can harm their insides. Good luck with your great rodents!

What age does a rabbits teeth stop growing?

Never. They constantly grow. The reason is unknown to me, but if your rodent is chewing on the bars of its cage, or something similar, it is normal. Just let it chew, unless it is chewing straight through the bar, in which case, get a new cage (this is unlikely to happen to you, but you may lose your pet if it gets out because it chewed so much).

How can you get your rats to stop chewing their cage?

Rats are always going to chew. It is instinct. Their teeth never stop growing and they must chew on wood and other things to keep their teeth ground down. You will need a cage suitable for rats that they can not chew through. This would be a metal cage with bars close enough together that they can't escape or an aquarium with a metal cover. Be aware though, aquariums are not ventilated like the wire cages and must be kept very clean as it will hold ammonia and cause further problems.

Does QUITT horse supplements stop cribbing on just wood or metal bars as well?

How do I get my rabbit to stop trying to attack my hand when I give it its food?

To get your rabbit to stop attacking your hand when your trying to feed it, try putting the food through the cage bars not by putting your hand through the door.

How do you stop chewing topacco?

What should you do if your hamster is biting the bars of his cage?

This is hard to stop because its teeth keep growing, they chew to wear the teeth down. You can put wooden toys in the cage for it to chew on instead of the cage but it still may chew on the cage.I do give my hamster stuff to chew on and he keeps chewing on the bars everyday...Any other suggestions? a Liquid?Alright its good to make the cage a little different! Interest him/her just like give it lots of stuff to do because if it keeps chewing, it could get brain damage or chipped teeth! Many people put lemon juice on the bars because it is non toxic and deters the hamsters from chewingAnswer 2:Also, you can take a squirt bottle and squirt them. but only if you can catch them in the act. i got one of the small perfume bottles from Victoria secret and cleaned it out really well and just use plain water. it doesn't have a hard enough of a stream to hurt them and they stop cause they are too worried about cleaning themselves. Or another alternative that worked with my girls is blowing in their face. one quick decent blow and they usually stop. after the 2nd day i didn't have a problem with them chewing the bars.Answer 3:To stop them from chewing on the cage first thing you can do is try what the other people said but if that doesn't work replace the cage with a plastic cage that's what i did and it worked great! This is for Answer 3; I have a plastic cage, and my hamster bites where she knows it opens. She keeps me awake at night, it's SOOOOO loud! When I'm downstairs, she is upstairs, and it sounds like the washing machine going on full blast upstairs, and that's with all the doors closed... her cage is in my bedroom! I rubbed lemon juice on the areas that she bites and scratches on. It was fresh lemon, I tasted it, and I couldn't open my eyes from the sourness for several minutes! My weird little hamster was licking the lemon juice off the cage! She even tried to take the lemon slice that I was holding, off me, so that she could eat it! It's not that she's bored; she has loads of toys and good biting items, big windy tubes to explore, and a nice comfy nest. She doesn't even want to escape, because when I open the cage, she just sits there and stares at me. No, she bites and scraped at the cage because she wants me to hold her. She wants to go out in her ball, and be petted by me and my family and friends. What can I do to stop her from chewing on her cage? The fairly NEW cage has minor damage from scratches and bites... please help?Answer 4:I just recently (and I mean just a few minutes ago) discovered my hamster chewing on the bars of her cage. We opened the cage, and put her ball up to it and she just crawled in. All she wanted was to roll around and explore. It gives her a different environment to play in for a little while. Since hamsters are nocturnal they want to be played with and handled at night. Maybe before going to bed, just get her out for a while and get her a ball to roll around in. She might stop chewing on the bars then.Answer 5:VERY SIMPLE AND CHEAP WAY TO STOP BAR NIBBLING, WATER BOTTLE NIBBLING, AND WIRE BOTTLE HOLDER NIBBLING: JUST GIVE THEM A METAL SPOON, Nothing fancy just plain metal spoons.. teaspoon is fineI actually couldn't believe my eyes it was so simple, yes he will chew it, but not for long, and after he's stopped take it out, it will also give him something to investigate, and discourage biting of objects u don't want him biting, and while he's biting the spoon get some toilet paper, I'm talking yank out 30 cm at a time, and gather like 10-12 pieces of it, and scatter it all over the cage, esp in the corner he's biting, he will become preoccupied with all that paper, and eventually wear himself out and go snoozeTested: Syrians, male, female, several times now its worked every time and when I take the spoon he doesn't even notice and some days I find him curled up in the paper vs his igloo.Answer 6:Just put rubber o the cage when the hamster goes to chew it the taste would be yuck and will stop for good.

Why does a mother gerbil burry there young?

Well,if this happens as pets than remember......Whatever you do don't touch them until they are old enough to move to another cage. Once the mother gerbil is done nursing she wont want them around and will try to harm them. When they are old enough to stop nursing move them to another cage immediately. Watch to make sure they are drinking on their own that is how you will know when the time is to change cages.Hope this helps!:}
