Dear Green Aquarium,
Here are some things you can do to get rid of algae
1. Make sure that your tank does not have direct sunlight.
2. Get a pleco as long as the other fish are not to small. Keep fish smaller than an inch and a half away from any sized pleco.
3. Ask a pet store for common snails they will breed like crazy but the green will be gone
4. Get a special scrub pad and clean the inside of the tank.
5. Buy some algae-be-gone and apply the amount instructed on the container
Sincerly,
Fish Expert Jason Steimel
6. Add live aquarium plants, they will compete with the algae.
7. Reduce all lighting, including artificial. Try 8 hours daily for a couple of weeks, if no improvement reduce a couple of more hours.(if you add live plants keep your aquarium light on at least 10 hours daily)
8. For aquariums with smaller fish try otocinclus catfish. At least 2 per every 10 gallons.
9. Reduce the amount of food you are feeding your fish. Make sure there are no left overs in the aquarium.
10. Do 25% water changes at least every two weeks, this will improve overall water quality as well. Nothing beats good old elbow grease!!!

Green is the color of algae........ some algae are green, Red, Brown, or Golden Brown
I would try going to any aquarium shop, and get a product called algaeflex or algaefix. Treat the water with correct dosage. This should kill off the algae and you should then drain it and clean off the dead algae.. Happy scrubbing I would try going to any aquarium shop, and get a product called algaeflex or algaefix.
