How do you take a screen shot of your desktop?

Windows XP:

Press the Print Screen/SysRq key

The image of the desktop is now on the clipboard. To print it out or save it press WindowsKey+R type mspaint.exe and press Control+V

Windows Vista:

Start

type snipping tool in the search box

press enter

On a Windows-based computer, on the right of F12 button there is a button that says "print screen" or "PrtSc." Press it. It will copy the current screen. To save as a picture, open MS Paint, or any other editor (even Word works), paste the picture and save it.

On most laptops, the Prt Sc button is combined as a secondary function of the Home (or another) button on the keyboard. You must press then Fn button (usually located next to the left-side CTRL button) simultaneously with the Home/Prt Sc button to capture a screenshot. Note: On a Windows PC, hitting ALT+PrtSc will capture the current window instead of the entire screen. On a Mac-based computer, press command-shift-3 for a regular screenshot. The screen will be saved on the desktop. To select a specific part, press command-shift-4, and drag a box over what you want. when you let go it will be saved. To take a picture of a window, press command-shift-4 and then space bar. The cursor will become a camera and it will take a picture of the window you click on. You can just simple press PrintScreen key and then Paste the screenshot into MSPaint, and then save it.
