use an impact gun and the proper size impact socket. and make sure its turning counter-clock wise to remove.
22mm
Take off the axle nut. The outer tie rod to knuckle nut. Loosen up the small nut holding the strut to the strut tower but don't take them all the way off. Then pry the inner cv jount out off the transmission. You have to hold the strut out of the way too.
You have to take out the bolts on the hub and then the big lock nut on the axle then it should slide off.
1 loosen drive axle nut 2 take off tier 3 remove axle nut 4 take brake assemble off including rotor 5 remove tie rod nut 6 take off lower ball joint nut 7 take a hammer and tap where lower ball join goes into kuckle or use a pickle fork 8 take knuckle off 9 slide axle out of tranny 10 revers order to put back together
Its really not that hard take the tire off, take the brake caliper off, take the bolt out off the ball joint (the spindal side) use a pry bar to push down on the control arm remove axle nut. Leave nut flush to end of axle use a hammer to free it from the hub.Once out, use pry bar on the inside off the axle and the trans and jerk it, there is a "C" retainer clip holding it in, also would recomend replacing the axle seal at the same time if its leaking.
Loosen the lug nuts and the axle nut raise the jeep take the tire off and the axle nut. than take the brake caliper off and hang it with a hanger so it does not cause damage to the brake line than take the brake rotor off. behind the spindle there is 3 torques (star shaped) bolts remove them this will take the bearing hub and axle out with a plastic hammer tap the hub that the axle goes into evenly around until the bearing hub and axle come out . once the unit is out and the axle is off the hub installation is reverse of removal
take the wheel off take brake caliper off take spindal nut off pull axle out. I had to burn my old u joint out with a torch and I have a 2001 1500. I hope that helps you.
Take the crown nut off the front axle and bang the axle back out, be careful not to damage threads. They are usually hard to get out, it may require heat on the axle. Good luck
It would be easiest with an impact, but a breaker bar may work.
take off wheel cover, turn axle nut half turn, raise vehicle front, take off tire/s, take off axle nut, remove brake caliper and rotor, remove sway bar to control arm link, remove cotter pin and casle nut to disconect ball joint from the steering knuckle, use two jaw puller to push axle out of hub, use pry bar to pry axle out of transmission. install is the reverse of removal. tips: dont take out both axles at once!. torque axle nut to 110 -115 ft lbs. always get alignment checked afterwards. grease spline before installing new axle. this is brief and not intended for begginer mechanics, must have decent amount of mechanical ability. hope it helps.
first with the car on the ground loosen the axle nut with a 32 or 34 mm axle nut socket ( abt 15.00 at kragens this is a special deep socket it comes in handy ) then you jack the car up on the specific side and remove wheel then take brake hub off then take off the axel nut all the way then put a pan under the axle ( the end that goes in to transmission because fluid will spill ) then dont yank but gently pry and pull the axle out ( it has to go through the horseshoe bottom of strut youll see ) then reverse all steps to install new cv axle be careful not to be to hasty take your time and when axle nut is back on torque it down
The axle nut looks like it has a retainer on it but it's just a part of the nut! put a wrench on it and turn it off!
