The cartridge it fires is certainly much more powerful... the Desert Eagle is available in a number of cartridge - .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .50 Action Express - all of which are substantially more powerful than the 9x19 cartridge used by the XR-9. As for the construction, I cannot say for certain, as I have never actually seen an XR-9 pistol, but the Desert Eagles are pretty solidly constructed guns, so it would take a lot to convince me of the XR-9 being sturdier.

the desert eagle's muzzle velocity is very high, so its able to take reletivly heavy cartriges. therefor makeing it nearly as powerful as a ak-47
Take it to a gunsmith. This is not intended to be user adjustable.
It doesn't need to be taken apart for normal cleaning and maintenance. If you really feel the need to take it apart, get this book: "The S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual" Book by Jerry Kuhnhausen
where? any place where you won't lose the parts.
The DE does not take clips.
Don't think you can. If you can take yours apart you can paint it.
Saw off the front sight and the fake charging handle. Unscrew all the screws and pry it apart. Hope it works! :)
