I know it goes without saying, but, I gotta say it: First, drop the clip and make sure the chamber's clear. There. Now I feel better.

There's a half-moon notch between the slide lock lever and the slide lock notch on the left hand side of the gun. Align the half-moon notch with the post on the slide lock lever. It's a little tricky to hold the slide steady, but, with the notch aligned, push on the slide lever post from the opposite side of the gun (just above the trigger and below ejection port). Some people have trouble pushing he post through. You might use the eraser end of a pencil, or, a chopstick (not the pointy ones, the cheap ones with the flat tips), to help you get it started. Once you've removed the slide lock lever, you can push the slide forward and pop it up and off. Go slowly so that you don't lose any parts, and carefully note where all the parts are, so, if they DO fall out while you're cleaning/oiling, you'll know where they go. Owner's manual is available here: http://www.gunknowledge.com/Documents/Smith%20&%20Wesson/index.html

A Google search will also find you a parts list if you take the time.
