The best way is to use an oil filter wrench which you should be able to buy at your local tools or hardware store for about five bucks. Only use the wrench to remove the filter do not use it to tighten. Finger tighten only.
I believe that is 3.4 to 3.6 quarts , with engine oil filter change
If you have a Ford Aspire with no oil in it, that doesn't use oil, you're in trouble...
The fuel pump on a Ford Aspire 1997 model is under the back seat. Take out the back seat and there is a plate in the floor with screws holding it down. Take these lose and the whole fuel pump housing and all will lift out of the fuel tank. !
When you open the hatch back there are two screws, take that off and then pop off the light cover and it is there.

On my 95 aspire the fuel pump went out and I had to take out the back seat and the fuel tank is there along with the fuel pump.

all you have to do is take the pan cover off. which is located just behind the raditor on the driver side. you do not have to take out the transmission to do so.
