The 1985 Ford Ranger smog pump is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The smog pump will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
Stock belt size is 102'' with the smog pump pulley. You will need a 94.5'' belt to bypass it. Make sure when you remove the pulley, that you put the three screws back in to keep the holes from rusting.
Smog pump pulley - are there two hoses running off the back somewhere? then it would be the smog pump (recirs engine gases in the crankcase)

Smog/Air pump belt to water pump pulley. This is for a truck that had a 2 grove power steering pulley, a 2 grove water pump pulley and a 3 grove crankshaft pulley................

Check this link: (copy & paste, or see below)http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c1528004dbefOWNERS MANUAL, UNDERHOOD DIAGRAM, DEALERSHIP, AUTOZONE, HANES MANUAL, LIBRARY.I WILL TRY TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH IT...START AT THE AIR CONDITIONER, GO OVER IT WITH THE BELT DOWN TO THE POWER STEERING PUMP, AROUND POWER STEERING PUMP UP TO THE WATER PUMP/FAN PULLEY, GO AROUND THE WATER PUMP/FAN PULLEY DOWN TO THE CRANK PULLEY LOCATED AT THE VERY BOTTOM. NEXT GO AROUND THE SMOG PUMP PULLEY AND UP TO THE ALTERNATOR PULLEY. LAST MOVE THE TENSIONER PULLEY UP SO THE BELT WILL FIT UNDERNEATH.
The 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora smog pump can be found on the left-hand side of the engine. The smog pump will be near the exhaust manifold.
To route the belt WITHOUT the A/C or Smog Pump you should follod this route moving clockwise. Around the ALTERNATOR pulley, below the tensioner pulley, over and around the POWER STEERING pulley, Below and around the CRANK pulley, above and around the WATER PUMP pulley, back to the ALTERNATOR pulley THIS SHOULD BE THE BEST ROUTE ALSO You Must get a shorter Serpentine belt. The tensioner pully will tighten it up a little bit but not enough. You must find a shorter belt that still has 6 ribs on the underside. Im unsure of the exact length you will need but im assuming it's going to be around a 60" belt. Another option is buying the Smog pump and A/C eliminator kits so you san use your belt you have on now and still get the same effect. I hope I have been of some help to you.
usaully its one of the four sensors. mines always go out right before the smog check. fairly easy to replace.
Go to Autozone and get an 88.2-inch 6-rib serpentine belt. This will effectively bypass the smog pump and keep all other accessories operational.
