As you look at the face of the radio, you'll note two holes, one above the other, on both sides of the face of the radio. You must insert the prongs of the special radio tool into these holes. The clips on the back of the unit will release and you can pull it forward, out of the dash.
Caution: do not use anything other than the special Ford tool. Attempting to use anything else, small screw drivers, hex wrenches, etc. can damage the clips and make it far more difficult to remove the radio. The tool is available from most auto parts retailers for anywhere from $5 to $30; shop around, because the price you pay is not indicative of the effective use of the tool.
If your 1997 Ford Taurus won't go into reverse, there may be a problem with your transmission. You can try checking your levels, but you need to take it to a mechanic.

take a red power wire run it from the positive side of the battery to the amp. Take a yellow wire run it from the amp to the fuse panel and tie it in to the radio fuse. Then run your jacks from the radio to the amp and speaker wires from radio to amp.

I had a 94 & 96 taurus and you had to take the ash tray out to get to it.
lubricate your serpentine belt with some belt grease or some WD-40 and see if it doesn't stop.
