How do you take pictures on a Mac?

iPhoto does not take pictures. It does store, catalogue and let you edit the pictures you have taken with a digital camera which you would connect to your Mac and load into iPhoto. If your Mac has the built-in iSight camera you can take a picture with the PhotoBooth application.

To take a picture using the built in camera you will need to use software such as PhotoBooth found in the Applications folder. If you want to capture a picture of your screen you should press the Command key (cmd), the shift key and the 3 key at the same time to capture the whole screen. Or you can use Command, shift, and 4 to give you a cross hairs cursor which you can drag over a part of the screen you want to capture (press the space bar to capture a whole window). Or you can use the Grab software found in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.

Major apps that can us the camera for video chat are SKYPE, iMessages, and FaceTime.
