How do you take the arms off of oakley half jackets?

It is not recommended by Oakley to remove the arms from the frame.

I just replaced the rubber on my Oakley Half Jacket 1.0 sunglasses. If you want to replace the rubber by the hinges, you have to remove the arms. After many attempts using blunt objects though the hole on the bottom side of the frame, I decided to just use brute frorce. I found that folding the arm in over the top of the frame compressed the hinges. When you are a little past 90 degrees at the hinge, pull upward on the arm. This will disengage the lower hinge pivot and allow you to remove the arm. Reassembly is just as easy. The pivot is larger on the top side of the arm, so insert the arm at an angle engaging the upper pivot into the hole in the frame. Then push down on the arm to re-engage the lower pivot. It should re-seat itself in the hole without issues.

Since my rubber was completely deteriorated, I used both Goo Gone and 70% Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) on cotton balls to clean the frames before installing the new rubber. I also used a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent to help install the rubber on the arms. The glasses are like new again.

I had better luck twisting them down and away on both arms without much trouble and then putting them back in almost in the folded position but twisted a little just to get the inside notches to catch. It really wasn't very hard but it scares you because if you break that nub inside you are in trouble. I hope that helps!
