We had some ducks that came when we called 'dill, dill, dill, dill, dill'.
When you feed the ducks call them 'duck duck duck duck' or whatever you want and soon they will associate the calling with food and come whenever you call.
It is good to give them some food when you call them, just to keep up that association.

DO NOT throw a duckling into water. Once the duckling is old enough, about a week, start by introducing them to the water by putting them in or near a relatively shallow body of water that is not deeper than the duckling is tall. Eventually the duck will learn to paddle and swimming will not be a problem even in very deep bodys of water.

∙ 15y agoYou can't train them to do that. You have to get them back in to their house yourself. I get my ducks back in at night by tapping the ground with a fly swatter.

∙ 13y agoYou do not need to teach a duckling to swim, they can swim from birth. A duckling will just jump in and swim!
