Visually inspect it. If you can see any rips or tears, I highly recommend replacing it before the grease inside the joint becomes contaminated, if you go long enough with contaminated grease it can really chew up the joint and the joint itself can fail and leave you stranded.
Inspect the boot and look for a tear or hole. If you see any the boot is bad and needs replacing. The joint itself will pop, and make noises if it is defective.Inspect the boot and look for a tear or hole. If you see any the boot is bad and needs replacing. To determine which O2 sensor is bad on an Infiniti QX4, start by using an OBD-II scanner to check for trouble codes. Look for codes related to O2 sensors, such as P0130 or P0135, which indicate issues with the sensor performance or heater circuit. Additionally, monitor the live data from the sensors; a malfunctioning sensor will typically show a flat or erratic voltage reading while the good ones fluctuate as expected. Inspect the wiring and connections for any visible damage or corrosion that could also affect sensor performance.
the boot you can tell with a visual inspection. there should be no tears in the boot. the boot is there to keep grease in and debris out. if the boot is torn and most of the grease is gone you probably should replace the shaft. if you catch it soon enough though you can just replace the boot which is much cheaper.

The SES light is on because there is a problem detected. The light will remain on until the problem is fixed. Have the codes read by your local auto parts store to help determine the cause. Could be as simple as a loose/bad gas cap.

First signs of a bad cv is, clicking noise when making a sharp turn. Alot of times the cv boot ( rubber boot that covers the cv joint and holds the grease in ) tears and leaks the grease out, you can turn the wheel all the way and take a look at the boot where the axle attaches to the wheel if there is a rip you will see grease everywhere, if the cv isn't clicking yet it will soon.
