First of all it needs to be removed from the engine. All journals should be checked (connecting rod bearing, main cap bearing). Measure each journal at several places to detect taper and out of round conditions with a micrometer. If you are not doing this type of thing most every day, you should take it to a machine shop. Let them do the micrometer test if it is good to go they should just give it back to you with a tiny charge for the mic-work. But if one or two need milling they will probably go ahead and do any milling necessary so to give you a usable/restored crank. Remember that the journals must be smooth as silk...They will also check to see if it is warped or hairline cracks are started to form. You should take your camshafts along for the ride to have them/it checked also. just being sure about it is better than putting it back in not knowing if it is warped or cracked. But a machine shop will tell you what size bearings you should need. Good Luck...
