Action is the distance between the fret board and the strings. Make sure the strings are not too high off of the fret board, as this can make playing much more challenging.

What type strings to use on electric Nylon Guitar?

I've never heard of an electric nylon string guitar , so anyone correct me if I'm wrong but acoustic strings all the way. however.. if you got a pickup system that is in the top left of the guitar assuming you're right handed acoustic strings for sure nylon , well the bridge would be kind of different where you'd tie the strings to the bridge , if that is the case nylon all the way. It's tough to answer some questions on here without photos, google the brand , series and model number if you have it written / stamped somewhere on the guitar , if not strings are like 5$ , if you bring it to a shop they'll tell you in two seconds.

What kind of guitar strings does josh homme use?

josh homme, don't tell us, what type of guitar amps, o pedal he use. but he turn down all guitar y C. so in C with a non baritone guitar normally the strings are 0.13. in some guitar 0.12 can use to. i hope my answer helps you. sorry for my English, im from Argentina and don't know how to write it -UPDATE- When he was in Queens of the Stone Age (up to Lullabies to Paralyze), he was listed as using Dean Markleys, but since Era Vulgaris and his career in Them Crooked Vultures he says that his guitar technician shifted him to Jim Dunlops. =)

How can you tell when a guitar string is old?

Old guitar strings sound dull - they lack the tonal richness of fresh strings, whether they are nylon or steel. Older strings are also difficult to keep in tune; their lack of elasticity will mean that older strings will often go audibly off-tune even after a few minutes continuous playing. In the case of metal strings the strings will also look dull, and will be prone to metal-fatigue (making them more likely to snap during tuning or playing). --------------------------- Assuming were talking about steel strings, some musicians replace them after each performance or practice session. There is no accurate answer. As a rule, a casual player should replace the strings at least once a year and some would say 6 months. If you look closely or rub them and there is any corrosion at all - they definitely need to be replaced because their ability to produce accurate tones is compromised. If someone gave you and old guitar and you think it sounds pretty good, play it until one of the strings breaks.

How do you lower the action on a acoustic guitar?

The action on most acoustics can only be lowerd by sanding down the saddle. The saddle is the white bit the strings go over on the body of the guitar. Don't try this unless you know what you are doing because you could make your guitar extremely difficuly to play. If the action is too high it could also mean that the neck needs some adjusting. Once again, get someone who knows what they are doing. The best thing you could do to save yourself a lot of heart ache is to take your guitar to the local music shop and tell them what you want. This is not an expensive thing you are asking for.
