Australian banknotes have never had a date or year printed anywhere on them.

To determine the year of printing, you need to identify the two signatures of the "Governor of the Reserve Bank" and the "Seceretary to the Treasury". These two signatures will pin the banknote down to two years at best.

A combination of the two signatures and the Serial Number will identify the banknotes' year of printing.

From 1993 a coded system of dating on the new polymer notes was commenced. The first two numerals of the serial number contain the last two digits of the year, for example, AA 93123456, indicate that the note was issued in 1993.

Australian banknotes do not have the year of printing or issue on them. Older notes are identified by a combination of the serial number and the signatures of the "Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia" and the "Secretary to the Treasury".

Decimal paper banknotes issued from 1966 to 1972 will have the words "COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA" printed at the top on both sides.

Decimal paper banknotes issued from 1974 onwards will have the word "AUSTRALIA" printed at the top on both sides.

From 1993 a coded system of dating on the new polymer notes was commenced. The first two numerals of the serial number contain the last two digits of the year, for example, AA 93123456, indicate that the note was issued in 1993.

Australian banknotes do not have the year printed on them.

The year of issue of the old paper notes can only be identified by a combination of the two signatories (Secretary to the Treasury and Governor of the RBA), and the full serial number.

Notes printed from 1966 to 1972 inclusive will have "COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA" across the top on both sides. Notes printed from 1974 onwards will "AUSTRALIA" across the top on both sides.

The newer polymer notes have the last two digits of the year as the first two digits of the serial number, eg. AA 93123456 indicates a note issued in 1993.
